With a family tradition and origins dating back to 1924, the company has a consolidated experience of over a century; a history of 100 years that supports us and encourages us to continue working to lead the sector.

WHAT DO WE DO?
The best from the sea
We buy daily from dozens of fishing areas and fish markets all over the world to provide our customers with fresh, top quality products at the best price. Also in frozen, we buy raw material directly from the source, from the closest to the most remote areas of the planet, to offer a wide range of products and origins.
Our own production and factory
Once the raw material has been received, we process and prepare it in our fresh produce processing rooms in Mercabarna and Mercamadrid, or in frozen products, we pack them in a multitude of formats in our frozen products factory, depending on the needs of our customers: bulk, sanitized, packaged and vacuum for the catering industry or skinpack, bag, isopack, vacuum or thermosealed for retail and supermarkets
Storage capacity
We have 53,000m³ of cold storage, which gives us the capacity to store around 3,000 references in a space for 10,000 pallets. For optimum stock management, we also have the latest technology and computerised tools (for example: radio frequency or voice picking).
Daily distribution and customer service
In addition, our more than 80 street or telephone salesmen and more than 90 professionals with properly prepared distribution vehicles, deliver daily to our more than 19,000 customers throughout the group, a millimetric work, but with a vocation for service and trust that sets us apart. Through external distributors, we also export in large volumes all over the world (Europe, Asia, Latin America, etc.).
OUR HISTORY
The passion and perseverance of the family’s ancestors, as well as the different generations of workers and professionals who have formed part of Ferrer, have allowed the business to evolve from the fish stall in Vic square (1920s), to a pioneering frozen food warehouse (1950s-60s), the progressive opening of several branches (1970s-90s) and up to the company we are today, with great import and export power all over the world.

The business was started by Julià and Manela (grandparents of the current manager) who bought the fish in Barcelona and received it at the train station in Vic, and loaded it with wheelbarrows to the stop.

With the good functioning of the business, the initial stop in Carrer de la Ramada was complemented with the weekly markets in the Plaça del Peso (before fish) and later with the opening of the shop.

The fish shop "Can Manela" in the centric street of the *Argenters de Vic, becomes a trade in what refers to the city, after the family kept it open for almost 70 years.

When Fèlix Ferrer (son of Juliano and Manela) was already running the business, he opened a small warehouse with a large frozen food fridge (the Almacén del Hielo) and from there he set up one of the first frozen food sales and service routes, a pioneer in the Osona region.

The big change came when, seeing the acceptance of the fresh and frozen fish business, he embarked on a brave gamble: to open a large warehouse with sufficient capacity to start storing and marketing the product in large volumes.

First concession of Frigo to distribute exclusively in Osona and Ripollès with the society of "Ferfri", and a few years later Manresa and Berga were added, which led to the installation in a warehouse in the area, which was the first Ferrer delegation outside Vic.

Expansion of the Central Offices in Vic, which became the current facilities with more than 10.000 m² of space and 2.500 m³ of refrigerated chambers. We added unloading bays, coolers and office space.

Acquisition of a large warehouse from *Mercabarna in front of the Barcelona Fish Market, from where the purchase, management and processing of all the fresh fish and seafood is centralised, and which reaches the rest of the delegations on a daily basis.

Frigorífics Ferrer is committed to the quality, safety, authenticity and legality of all its products as well as to continuous improvement, which is why the company is certified with the voluntary IFS FOOD standard, one of the highest standards in food safety, which is a challenge to improve in all these aspects on a daily basis.
Sustainability is important to us, that is why we are certified as a chain of custody by the international MSC and ASC seals that protect, watch over and identify things well done throughout the chain at a sustainable level of both wild product and farmed fish.
